KABUL, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Kabul Municipality on Tuesday opened a three-day ornamental flowers and plants exhibition to expand urban greenery, enhance the Afghan capital's aesthetic appeal, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship.

The exhibition features thousands of ornamental flowers and plants cultivated in the nurseries and greenhouses of the municipality's greenery department. In parallel, private-sector producers have been granted a platform to display and market their horticultural products, enabling residents to purchase a diverse array of flowers and plants at reasonable prices, according to the municipal agency.

Beyond presenting a wide variety of botanical species, the event serves as an educational forum to raise public awareness about the critical role of urban green spaces in improving the city's environment and elevating residents' quality of life, the agency noted.

Kabul, a city long scarred by conflict and rapid, unplanned urbanization, suffers from low per-capita green space ratios. The municipality has increasingly turned to public-private partnerships and community-oriented events to reverse decades of environmental neglect.
