Ban says UN to stay the cours in Afghanistan
Tajikistan News.Net Friday 6th November, 2009
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Friday denied the international body is pulling out of Afghanistan.
Speculation arose after the UN said it was relocating some staff over security concerns.
“Let me be crystal clear. We are not evacuating. We will not, cannot and must not be deterred. Our work will continue,” Ban told a press conference shortly after he briefed the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
The UN a day earlier had said it was taking immediate steps to strengthen security for UN employees in Afghanistan, in light of the attack on a guest house in Kabul last week that killed five UN staff members and injured 9 others. At the time of that announcement the UN spokesman referred to “further ongoing threats.”
The measures taken since last week's attack include for the short term relocating some of the 1,100 international staff to safer sites within Afghanistan, as well as to duty stations in the region. The UN has around 6,000 in Afghanistan in total.
Ban, who visited Kabul on Monday in a show of solidarity, stated that no critical staff will be moved, and that the UN’s work on humanitarian and development needs will continue as before.
“I was able to see for myself that the determination and commitment of our staff in Afghanistan remains strong,” he said.
Mr. Ban said he plans to provide the General Assembly in the next few days with specific proposals regarding additional security measures.
In Kabul, the Secretary-General met with President Hamid Karzai and former presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah. Both Mr. Ban and his Special Representative, Kai Eide, have emphasized the need for the formation of new Government that is composed of competent, and reform-oriented personalities that can move the country forward. UN denies it is pulling out of Afghanistan
The UN may as well pull out for all the good they are doing.
They are just additional targets for the Taliban.

Leave Bush and family in Afghanistan
They started this fake war on terrorism using taxpayer’s money to fund the military to carry out wishes of multi national oil and gas co’s wanting to build the long awaited grids through Afganistan. This is the 2nd greatest con act by a president since he invaded Iraq for the oil companies!
