BAGUIO CITY, June 19 (PIA) - - Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Chair and Office of Civil Defense - Cordillera Regional Director Albert Mogol advises all local DRRM offices to set their preparedness measures in place as PAGASA officially announced the onset of the rainy season.
The weather bureau also forcasts more than 10 tropical cyclones to visit the Philippines this rainy season including one to two this June.
PAGASA also advises the public to be wary of scattered, to at times widespread rainfall associated with the Southwest monsoon or habagat.
In a memorandum issued to all local DRRM offices in the different provinces, municipalities and cities in the region, Mogol reminded DRRM officers to ensure that there will be no unauthorized mining activities in their respective area of responsibility , and at the same time ensure that warning signs along danger areas are in place.
Mogol also reiterated the importance of implementing pre - emptive evacuation of families whose houses lie near river banks, dangerous slopes and those near ground zero (former landslide area) and to ensure that evacuation centers are ready to accommodate displaced families during such scenario.
Utilization of Early Warning System, PA (public Address) System, social media, radio stations and text blast, are also important to ensure the widest and timely dissemination of weather forecasts and public safety advisories, Mogol added.
The LDRRMOs are also advised to conduct continuous monitoring of possible hazards that the rainy season may bring in their respective AOR so that the appropriate preventive and precautionary measures can be put in place before it poses danger to the people and the local community.
For the CRDRRMC, Mogol also already convened an Emergency Response Preparedness meeting last June 4 to look into the preparedness efforts of the council member agencies, in terms of disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as on their readiness to respond.
Mogol is spearheading the second leg of the DRRM Caravan in the province of Kalinga, to meet with the local chief executives and the Provincial DRRM Council members, to look into their preparations, issues and concerns. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
