PAGADIAN CITY, Jan. 19 (PIA) - - Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced the construction of P500 Million hospital for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), a manifestation of the Duterte administration's love and care for the OFWs worldwide.
The said hospital will cater to the medical needs and concerns of the OFWs and their families for free. This announcement came during the secretary's recent meet and greet session with Pagadianon OFW Global families here.
"Tanang mga OFWs puede diha, kauban ang pamilya. Libre " (All OFWs and their families can avail the medical services in the OFW Hospital for free) said Sec. Bello in vernacular.
Bello said the construction of the OFW Hospital will commence this February 2020 and is expected to be completed on May 1, 2021, in time for Labor Day celebration.
He also called on recruitment agencies to take care of the OFWs and reminded them that their responsibility does not end in their deployment, but should also look after the OFW's concerns and welfare.
He threatened to cancel their permits if caught to be neglecting the OFW concerns brought before their agencies.
Bello thanked the OFWs for their huge contribution in the country's economy. Dollar remittance brought in by OFWs every year is pegged at $30 Billion or Php 1.6 trillion if converted to peso.
The construction of an OFW Bank is also in the pipeline.
Sec. Bello is in the city as one of the honored guests as Pagadian celebrates with grandeur the Pasalamat Festival, an annual commemoration of Pagadianons devotion for the city's Patron Saint Sto Nino. (NBE/JPA/PIA-Zamboanga del Sur)
