WASHINGTON, D.C.: In the face of the surging Covid Delta variant, the Smithsonian Institution reversed its mask policy late last week and will require all visitors to wear face masks when entering its museums.

The Smithsonian, which houses the world's largest museum, with 19 museums largely concentrated in Washington, D.C., said it would again require face masks beginning on Friday for all patrons, regardless of whether they are vaccinated.

Just last month, the Smithsonian said vaccinated visitors were exempt from wearing masks indoors.

The change in the Smithsonian requirements come at the height of the summer travel season, with tourists returning to Washington, D.C., following last year's shut down of tourism.
