Kazakhstan, Trkiye sign deal on joint drone production

ALMATY, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan and Trkiye signed an agreement on Thursday to establish a joint venture for the production and maintenance of unmanned aerial vehicles, the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Construction said.

The agreement was signed in Astana in the presence of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and visiting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The joint facility will be established in Kazakhstan by state-owned defense manufacturer Kazakhstan Engineering and Turkish Aerospace Industries to produce and maintain ANKA drones, making Kazakhstan the first foreign country to manufacture the unmanned aerial vehicles.

The ANKA reconnaissance and strike unmanned aerial vehicle was developed in Trkiye in 2013 and has undergone combat testing, the ministry said in a statement.
