PanARMENIAN.Net - Israeli public broadcaster Kan 11 presented Armenia and Azerbaijan under the same Azerbaijani flag during its broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest semifinal. The information was shared by Artyom Chernamorian, president of the Nairi Union of Israeli Armenians in Petah Tikva, Sputnik Armenia reported.
According to him, the incident caused significant reaction and dissatisfaction within the Armenian community in Israel. At the same time, Chernamorian expressed the opinion that the episode resulted from an editorial mistake rather than a deliberate provocation.
"I do not think this was intentional, but rather a display of negligence. Similar incidents have happened before. On Sunday I intend to send an official letter demanding an apology," he said.
Chernamoryan also recalled another controversial incident involving Kan 11 that took place in 2025. Following Armenia's performance at Eurovision that year, the channel's commentator said: "I can't believe we gave them an entire neighborhood in Jerusalem. Survivor - that's exactly how we feel listening to this song."
After that incident, Armenia's Public Television Company appealed to Israel's public broadcaster seeking clarification. In response, the Armenian side received an official letter from the corporation's director-general Golan Yochpaz, apologizing for the commentator's remarks.
Later, Israel's public broadcasting corporation also issued a public apology.
Neither Armenia nor Azerbaijan advanced to the Eurovision final.
